The iOS Mail app is horrible at discerning which are important (from real people I know or critical alerts, such as banks, airlines etc.) and the bazillions of marketing emails. As title states, Gmail app closes completely on OS12 meaning no emails come in until opened. There are no Battery settings that can be changed to prevent this meaning the app has to be opened to receive emails. Works fine on my 8T. You might try clearing the data cache. Settings/apps/auto launch. Toggle Gmail on. . Lailah
